Four Signs Your Transmission Filter is Clogged

Transmission troubles are never fun. One of the most common transmission problems we see here at AMPM Automotive in Rockville, Maryland, is clogged transmission filters.

To prolong the life of your car, it’s important to get your transmission checked out by our automotive repair mechanics if you notice any problems. If you fail to get your transmission fixed, you won’t be able to drive your car.

Here are four signs your transmission filter might be clogged.

  • Leaking Transmission Fluid
  • Any kind of car leak is never a good sign. But if you notice brown or red-colored puddles under your car, you should schedule a transmission repair service appointment right away. Leaking transmission fluid could be an indicator of a clogged filter.

  • Weird Sounds
  • Your vehicle can make a lot of different noises. However, if you start to notice loud clunking, rattling, or grinding, it’s a smart idea to take your vehicle to a car repair shop. Strange sounds coming from your vehicle could signify many different problems, including a clogged transmission filter.

  • Strange Smells
  • Transmission fluid has a somewhat sugary, sweet odor. You might notice this unusual odor if your transmission filter gets clogged. Likewise, you could start smelling something sweet if parts of your transmission are grinding together due to a lack of lubrication caused by improper fluid levels.

  • Shifting Problems
  • Is your car slipping gears? Maybe it’s not shifting at all. The culprit behind your shoddy shifting could be a clogged transmission filter. When a clogged filter blocks fresh fluid from circulating, it won’t lubricate components properly, leading to shifting issues.
